October 10: Gujarat Municipal Corporation polling day

    Polling for six Gujarat Municipal Corporation elections is now going on. 86.2 lakh voters will cast their votes in these cities. BJP and Congress party fought hard in these prestigious municipal polls. BJP won the all 6 corporations in the 2005 polls. But, Mahagujarat Janata Party (MJP) is expected to split some votes and play crucial role in tight contests.     Most of these Gujarat cities are among the fastest growing cities in India and these cities have undergone massive changes in the last 5 years. Outcome of these polls will give us some signals about Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s current popularity. Junagadh Corporation

    Junagadh municipality was upgraded to Municipal corporation in 2003. In 2004 elections, BJP won in 35 wards by bagging 45% of votes but Congress won the corporation in 2009 elections. BJP got just 21 wards in 2009 corporation elections despite regaining Junagadh Loksabha constituency from Congress in 2009 Lok Sabha polls. Despite BJP's all out efforts, it lost the corporation to Congress.     Significant political developments:     1.
