Lok Janshakti Party (LJP)

Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) is a regional political party in Bihar. It was founded by Ram Vilas Paswan in 2000. In the initial days, LJP got huge support from its core groups – Muslims & Dalits. Nitish Kumar succeeded in attracting Maha-Dalits and economically backward Muslims while Rahul Gandhi & Lalu Prasad Yadav are trying to attract Muslims which resulted in the erosion of LJP vote bank to less than 10%.

But, LJP still has strong vote bank in Vaishali district and also has significant vote bank in Paswan community.

LJP is more famous for its strategical blunders by leadership than for its achievements. Such things general occur when leadership does not have clear vision for its party.

1. LJP helped JD (U) – BJP alliance to return to power in 2005 October Bihar Assembly elections by splitting Lalu Prasad Yadav vote bank. NDA never looked back since then in Bihar despite alliance between RJD & LJP.

2. By not aliening with Congress party, it made another big mistake.

Worst moment: Ram Vilas Paswan’s loss in Hajipur in 2009 Parliament polls where he once won with 4 lakh majority.

Note: Fortunes of regional parties generally depends on its leader. When people lost faith in his words, party suffer.

Can Ram Vilas Paswan recover from Nitish Kumar onslaught?
