October 6: Bihar election news update
RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav kicked off election campaigning from Kosi region while Nitish Kumar will start campaigning from Madhepura from October 8. First phase of polling will be on October 21 while counting of votes is on November 24. All the parties are fielding candidates with criminal charges without hesitation. Some hard core criminals are fielding their wives and relatives. New slogan: “Give ticket to my family member. If not, he/she will contest on opposition symbol.” This new trend is indicating the fall in values in the system. Lalu Prasad Yadav wife Rabri Devi is contesting from 2 constituencies – Raghopur and Sonepur. Initial trends: JD (U)-BJP alliance is marginally ahead but outcome will depend on how Muslims vote as they have the capacity to influence the outcome in almost 70 Assembly constituencies. They voted for Lalu from 1990-2005 but their vote bank was divided among Congress-RJD-JD (U) which resulted in the clean sweep of 2009 Lok Sabha polls by BJP-JD (U) alliance. Maharashtra Elections: Interesting Facts
The organization Maharashtra Election Watch (MEW) compiled a stunning report on election candidates in race. The data compiled on 470 political party candidates contesting in and around Mumbai and Thane. 1. Mumbai city has 10 seats; Mumbai suburb has 26 and Thane 24 (Total 60 seats), which would pay a decisive role in Govt formation. 2. Total asset value declared by these 60 candidates is Rs 849 crore. 3. There are 122 crorepatis are contesting in the election from different political parties. 4. Samajwadi Party state chief Abu Asim Azmi is the richest candidate with declared assets of Rs 126 crore, also with a highest liability of 4.82 crore 5. BJP has the highest crorepati candidates (80%). 6. Average asset of 470 candidates under political parties (1.8 crore) 7. 137 candidates have not provided PAN card details yet. 8. The number of crorepati candidates have increased compared to last election 9. Shiv Sena has the highest number of candidates with criminal records (26%) 10.
