Maharashtra Elections: Interesting Facts

The organization Maharashtra Election Watch (MEW) compiled a stunning report on election candidates in race.

The data compiled on 470 political party candidates contesting in and around MumbaiĀ and Thane.

1. Mumbai city has 10 seats; Mumbai suburb has 26 and Thane 24 (Total 60 seats), which would pay a decisive role in Govt formation.

2. Total asset value declared by these 60 candidates is Rs 849 crore.

3. There are 122 crorepatis are contesting in the election from different political parties.

4. Samajwadi Party state chief Abu Asim Azmi is the richest candidate with declared assets of Rs 126 crore, also with a highest liability of 4.82 crore

5. BJP has the highest crorepati candidates (80%).

6. Average asset of 470 candidates under political parties (1.8 crore)

7. 137 candidates have not provided PAN card details yet.

8. The number of crorepati candidates have increased compared to last election

9. Shiv Sena has the highest number of candidates with criminal records (26%)

10. The sitting MLA and former underworld king Arun Gawli of Akhil Bharatiya Sena has 9 pending cases against him. He is in race at Byculla.

11. Total candidates with criminal background are 126. The number of candidates with criminal background has slightly decreased compared to previous election.

12. Number of graduates contesting – 99

13. Number of postgraduates contesting – 23

14. Candidates who are just 10th pass -127
